BGfL - Birmingham Grid for Learning The only citywide, login-free, 24/7 teacher-facing online space in Birmingham
BGfL is arguably the most comprehensive learning resource of its kind to be found anywhere in the UK. In addition to the public portal, the BGfL also includes interactive content, e-briefing facilities and an award-winning learning environment. The site attracts incredibly high traffic - regularly in excess of 3 million unique page views per school month. Over 2.5 million of these views comes from Birmingham schools - that's almost 8 out of 10 views from teachers and learners! BGfL provides a wealth of information and activities that are not only educationally sound, engaging and fun, but are also highly focused on appropriate interfaces for each key stage and for teachers.
With much of the content focused on and around Birmingham, it provides access to high quality, locally relevant resources that puts learning into context, to meet the needs of its users. And with so many resources on offer, BGfL continues to be a most powerfully engaging tool for teaching and learning and school management and is a potential key driver for a city aiming becoming a leading city for learning. One of its most popular current activities is the SOS Project: a social media project to Share Online Safely. This project is about supporting teachers to make a simple, safe start to use social media safely for learning. The project is led by teachers and managed by Link2ICT.
