BGfL offer a wide range of teaching and learning resources to suit all ages and interests, and also loads of checked external web links, revision ideas and local history collections.

Here are some of the most popular resources:

1. Birmingham Lives - The Carl Chinn Archives

Over the years, Professor Carl Chinn has assembled what is probably the biggest archive of working-class life stories in the world, consisting of tens of thousands of letters and photos, hundreds of oral history interviews and a variety of memorabilia and ephemera.

2. What was it like to be an evacuee?

"The year is 1939. Birmingham is at war. Night after night bombs rain down on the city destroying houses, streets and lives. Your parents have decided to evacuate you to the countryside for your safety. You are put on a train at Birmingham Snow Hill with lots of strangers and are soon heading out into the countryside…

Your task is to write a letter to your parents describing your evacuation. What have you seen? Who have you met? What do you feel? ..."

3. The John Morris Jones Collection

Eg: The John Morris Jones Collection - Ladywood

These books are a collection of local history material compiled by John Morris Jones, former Headteacher of George Dixon Junior School. He wrote over 30 booklets in which he covered almost every district of the City of Birmingham.
