E-Safety

Welcome to the Birmingham E-safety pages. This site has been developed to provide support and information for anyone accessing the Internet via the Birmingham Grid for Learning. It aims to explain how the filtering software works along with the issues facing adults and pupils when using the Internet and new techologies. In addition, schools should ensure that the roles, responsibilities, policies and proceedures are known and understood by the whole school community to provide a safe environment.

The DfES states: 'Pupils should be taught safe and responsible behaviours when using the internet and related technologies, and should develop the skills to evaluate the material they find and become discriminating users of internet resources. '
Ref.: http://safety.ngfl.gov.uk/schools/document.php3?D=d55

To address this, Birmingham have produced the Smartsurfer materials that will teach pupils the critical skills they need to use the Internet safely and confidently.
