On-line ICT Register

In the past we have sent out various paper questionnaires to schools to gather the information we need and the statistics that the DfES requires about the use of ICT in schools.  In an attempt to make the information we gather more useful and to reduce the bureaucratic burden on schools, we are implementing an on-line system.  This will mean that in the future schools will only need to consult the information we hold on them and update those bits that have changed.

? The ICT register is designed to allow schools to record and update the information that the LEA holds about their levels and use of ICT.

? It can be viewed and amended at any time, enabling schools to ensure the information we have about them is as accurate as possible.

? It will improve the information we hold and help us better to meet the needs of schools.

? It will inform our understanding of the broad changes in ICT usage and the issues facing schools

? It will enable us to monitor and report on ICT in Birmingham schools.

Please go to www.bgfl.org/cfpages/ictregister and complete the register on line.  Your login is the same as the login for the Laptops for teachers system and the password is the school?s postcode.

If you have any queries about this the please contact Teresa Ash at teresa.ash@birmingham.gov.uk or on 0121 464 5854.

Filtering Update - Freewebs.com
Recently there have been several reports of new pornogaphic sites being hosted on freewebs.com. Because of the nature of this web host, and in line with our filtering policy, we have taken the decision to block access to freewebs.com in school. If you need to have access to a particlar educational site hosted on freewebs.com, please email filtering@bgfl.org with the site address and details. We will review the site and allow access if appropriate.

Internet Literacy
Current research shows that pupils still do not understand how to use the Internet safely and effectively.  Birmingham have worked with Alan November to produce a set of online materials to support staff and students  with their use of the Internet.

Standards fund 31
Details of your funding for this year will shortly be available on BGfL.  More information will be available at the forthcoming ICT coordinators meetings.

Hands on Support
A part of standards fund 31a is allocated for supporting teachers using ICT across the curriculum in their classroom.  School effectiveness division (formerly BASS) are leading on the support for this and have produced a website to support schools in their planning and implementation.

eBriefing
Have you registered to receive e-mail notification of new documents? As all documents are added to the system, eBriefing now provides a central place to search for the information you need.

Co-ordinating ICT in school provides a range of challenges. This page will gather links to current guidance and advice.

If you have a question concerning ICT please e-mail andy_pyper@birmingham.gov.uk
