Resource Support Notes:
The activity can be used for reinforcement of children's addition and subtraction skills.
Clicking on 'Solving the Puzzle' starts the activity. The screen presents the child with a puzzle linked to the Snakes and Ladders game. Can they follow the numbers and work out where the BGfL face will go? When they type in the correct answer the BGfL face will move over the left hand board. The activities get progressively more difficult.
At any point the child can elect to play the Snakes and Ladders game. They click on a die and a number is randomly generated. Before the BGfL face can move the child has to get the addition question right. Note that near the end of the game, in traditional Snakes and Ladders mode, any totals over 16 result in the difference being taken away and the BGfL face moving backwards.
Try doing the puzzles by clicking on the 'Solve the Puzzle' face. See if you can answer the puzzle. If you can then type the answer in the box and press the Enter/Return key on your computer keyboard.
If you are fed up doing the puzzles then play the game by clicking on the 'Main Menu' button and then the 'Play Snakes and Ladders' face. You can practice adding and subtracting by finding out where you think the BGfL face will get to on the board.
