Description:
It is sometimes important to be able to work out the difference between two times. For example, you may need to know how long you are going to have to wait between buses or how long a journey will take. This set of activities will help you with your ability to work out the answers.
Resource Support Notes:
This resource is aimed at helping pupils understand, work out and then practice calculating time differences from a bus timetable.

This resource starts with an interactive model to demonstrate a 'counting on' strategy for calculating the difference between 2 times. Used with an interactive whiteboard this provides an excellent starting point as it will allow children to talk about, share and contribute alternative strategies to the rest of class. The model includes an analogue clock to aid children making the connection between 24 hour and analogue time.

Once the model has been demonstrated, there are a further 10 questions which get progressively more difficult. Children use the timeline to mentally calculate the time difference and then enter their answer. A check then provides feedback. If a pupil gets the same answer wrong 3 times in a row then they are prompted to seek assistance as they are either struggling with the questions or are not too sure as to what they are trying to achieve.
