Resource Support Notes:

MISS DEE VIDER - 2010 Maths Booster
This is the latest annual revision resource designed by BGfL to boost Key Stage 2 learners’ expertise in dividing 2-, 3- and 4-digit numbers!

Help the PE teacher divide her pupils into relay teams from 9 to 99. Step-by-step guidance is offered in this interactive online activity.

Key features

  • Animated number line to demonstrate ‘Chunking’
  • Problem-solving context:  relay teams
  • 5-step problem-solving approach
  • User-friendly, step-by-step approach to support individual learners
  • A highly engaging presentation for a difficult topic

There are:

5 problem-solving stages:

  • Try a Brain-warmer!
  • Picture it!
  • Estimate it!
  • Calculate it!
  • Check it!

3 Levels:

Jogger (2-digit  ÷ 1-digit)     Focus: To practise estimating skills.

Runner (3-digit ÷ 1-digit)     Focus: To using chunking method. Close guidance so users choose the largest chunk

Sprinter (3- and 4-digit ÷ 2-digit)   Focus: To using chunking method with less guidance.

THE MAGICALLY MULTIPLYING TUCK SHOP - 2009 Maths Booster
This resource was hugely successful in 2009 for improving Y6 pupils' skills in multiplying
2-digit and 3-digit numbers – one of the identified barriers to achievement of Maths Level 4 in previous years’ SATs tests.

The Magically Multiplying Tuck Shop is a richly designed learning activity which offers an engaging, if eerie, alternative to more mundane worksheet-based approaches: a Zombie Shopkeeper runs a Magic Tuck Shop inside a Haunted Forest for learners visiting the School Booster:
  • Try a Brain-warmer!
  • Picture it!
  • Estimate it!
  • Calculate it!
  • Check it!

3 Levels:               Whizzkid (2-digit  x 1-digit)      Magician (3-digit x 1-digit)     Wizard (2-digit x 2-digit)
