Programme Objectives: All secondary schools in Birmingham have access to a City Learning Centre (CLC). Each secondary school is a member of one of six networks, each of which contains a City Learning Centre.
City Learning Centres: Improve access to, and use of, the latest education technology by pupils and adults. Improve attainment levels through the use of that technology. Improve employment prospects. Act as test beds for innovation and new ways of teaching and learning.
City Learning Centres provide: High quality accommodation. A very high level of ICT resources. Direct access to NGfL and BGfL. Access to high technology teaching and learning aids such as interactive white boards, video editing, video conferencing etc. Access to variety of software and courses not always available to schools. Access to careers information, education and guidance. Access to facilities outside normal school hours.
City Learning Centres are: Available to student and staff from the network schools. Working not only with the secondary schools in their network, but also with other City secondary schools and the wider community. Developing strategies to enable students to integrate work done in the CLC with work in their own schools. Collaborating with other CLCs and partners such as Educational Business Partnerships, Connexions, FE colleges, libraries and hospitals.

| | | | Birmingham's Overview: The six City Learning Centres in Birmingham have been created as part of the Excellence in Cities programme. Excellence in Cities has been funded partly by the DfES and partly by Birmingham. The activities of each CLC are coordinated through the network of secondary school heads. Each network has appointed one head as Chair of the network heads. | | |
