Description:
These pages contain a collection of local history material compiled by John Morris Jones, former Headmaster of George Dixon Junior School, during the period 1960 - 1980. He wrote over 30 booklets in which he covered almost every district of the City of Birmingham. In many ways they were the first detailed local history studies aimed at the non-historian, and particularly focussed at children. This resource is only part complete and new additions will be made over the next few months. Thanks go to Clinton Davies and Bill Dargue for their work in preparing these materials for publication on the BGfL.
Resource Support Notes:
This is an invaluable resource for the teaching of local history at Key Stages 2 and 3 as well as being a highly accessible and interesting read in their own right. The images included in the chapters make excellent resources for historical interpretation.
There are more chapters to follow but there are also some of the original booklets missing. If you know the whereabouts of, or have a copy of any of the booklets then we would be really grateful if you could let us know so they can be added to this online version.
