Description:
This is an interactive exploration into acids and alkalis.
Resource Support Notes:
This is a different type of online activity from that which you normally find. Feedback has been deliberately witheld so that the results of the activity can lead to classroom based discussion.

Pupil Notes

This activity should help you to

1. Be able to identify acids, alkalis and neutral substances using the litmus indicator test.
2. Be able to measure the strength of acids and alkalis using the universal indicator test.
3. Know that strong acids have a low pH value and strong alkalis a high pH value.
4. Develop an understanding of the concept of neutralisation

All three of the activities follow the same procedures. You must make the prediction first. Unless they have completed the entire prediction column you will not be allowed to start the test. When the test has been carried out record the observation. At the end of the exercise print the table and discuss the answer with a friend, teacher etc.
