| Teachers fear of intervention over behaviour issues |
Many teachers are wary of tackling disruptive behaviour for fear of damaging their careers, according to research commissioned by the government. Without clear rights and responsibilities, and unsure of the legal powers they have to discipline students, those who took part in the study said there were "few, if any" strategies to deal with "mid-level" behaviour such as verbal abuse, swearing, spitting and jumping on tables.
