These are the stories of soldiers from India, Africa and the Caribbean who served in the First and Second World Wars. For this project, we chose veterans with a link to Britain – most lived here, or have relatives here. Where possible, we interviewed the veterans or their relatives.

Some veterans fought in the war, some served behind the front line or served on the home front. All contributed to the war effort, and proudly served Britain, the ‘Mother Country’.
