Many books, TV programmes and films tell the story of the
part played by British soldiers, sailors and airmen in the
First and Second World Wars. But few people in Britain realise
the enormous contribution made in both wars by men and women
from the Indian sub-continent, Africa and the Caribbean. Their
part in these wars is often forgotten – it is almost
as if the sacrifices they made have been wiped out of history.
Use this website to find out about the stories
of some of these veterans, and some
facts and figures about their contribution. Investigate
the memorial built
in London to help us remember them, or some
resources if you want to find out more.
