The Abbot and Convent of Hales had a grange (outlying farm) called
Ridgacre in 1086. Soon afterwards the Norman Earl of Shrewsbury
annexed Hales and part of Warley to Shropshire for administrative
purposes, though they were far removed from that county. A later
Earl added his family name 'Owen' to Hales. The tiny hamlet of Ridgacre,
centred on a triangular green, had its own Thirdborough. Some building
took place along the Hagley Turnpike, but there was no chapel until
Christ Church was built in 1844. Enclosure was long since completed.
