Scientific Report on the body found at Lindow on August 1 1984

Date of Burial He was lying on peat which was 2,000 years old at least.
Age A young man of about 25 years of age
State of the Body The body was squashed flat by the weight of the peat and the cutting machine had cut the body in half. Only the head, torso and right foot were found. He had a beard and brown hair. He was probably 1.68m tall. His hand showed he was not used to hard work. He had excellent teeth. X-rays showed he had suffered from mild arthritis in the back and leg. He had worms in his intestines. No clothes were found apart from a fox-fur band on his left arm
Injuries He had been hit on the back of the head and his skull was fractured. His lower ribs were shattered by a heavy blow. He had been stabbed in the chest. A cord around his neck had strangled him and broken his neck. His throat was cut.
Stomach Contents Bread made from spelt, enmer and barley.
