Scientific Report on the body found at Borremose in 1896

Date of Burial The peat under the body was dated to the time of Christ
Age Adult
State of the Body The man had been buried in a sitting position, with his legs bent up and crossed. The stubble on his chin showed that he had not shaved on his last day alive. No clothes were found on the body but there were two sheepskin capes rolled up at his feet and a scrap of cloth under his head. A long birch branch lay across the body. His hand showed he had not been used to hard work. He was only 1.6 metres tall.
Injuries There was a noose around his neck. The back of his head was crushed and his right leg broken but both these injuries took place after death.
Stomach Contents His last meal had been a thick vegetable soup made from spring seeds, mainly corn spurrey, knotweed and other weed seeds.
