Stone comes from...

Stone is taken from the ground in places called quarries.

There are two sorts of stone used in the millstones at Sarehole Mill - millstone grit grey which comes from the Peak District of Derbyshire, and French burrstone, a limestone from an area to the south of Paris.

The millstone grit is shaped in one piece but the burrstones are made up of pieces joined together.
