Pond Skater

Pond skaters get their name because of the way they run, or skate, along the top of the water. They do not spend all their time on the water though.  Pond skaters sometimes leave the water to walk on the land or rest on rocks.

The pond skater feeds on insects that have fallen into the water.   It can also jump into the air to catch insects flying past.
