What is the most important thing I need to concentrate on when choreographing my dance?

This is a very complex question! There are so many starting points and choreographic devices to use when making your own dance. From a personal point of you, I think it is important to have a theme or idea that inspires your dance. A picture, a story, an issue you feel strongly about, a colour, a place? so many different things. Look for inspiration on the web, the TV in magazines in storybooks.

Next you need to describe your theme. You can do this by writing down ideas and words to do with your theme, find images, pieces of music, other people?s artwork on the same theme. Use all these resources to help you make up your movements.

Other important things to think about include; how many people should be in your dance? Where should they be on the stage? Should you use unison (when everyone dances together)? Should you use cannon (When dancers move one after the other)? What is your stating and end position? Is there an important movement or sequence that needs repeating?
