| What is a black hole and how it is formed? Is a blackhole coming towards Earth? |
Ihtisham
Thanks for the interesting question. When you drop something it falls to the ground. Why does it always do this? It does this because it is pulled to the ground by a force which we call gravity.
The next question is - Where does this force come from?
It is thought that gravitational force is linked to the mass of an object. (The mass of an object can crudely be linked to the amount of substance that an object is made of). That means all objects exert a gravitational force on all other objects. Wow. Yes?.but only very big objects with lots of mass have a gravitational force that is noticeable. The Sun pulls the Earth, the Earth pulls at the Moon, the Moon pulls at the Earth (tides and things) and the Earth pulls at everything that is on it?like you and me.
What about black holes?
There are some objects in space that have so much concentrated mass that their gravitational force will not only attract objects but also light. Any light passing near them is attracted to them so we cannot see the light from the stars that pass near it and this results in a black hole in space.
