Violence In The Community

This was again voted as a priority campaign for 2012-2014

 VIP Anti- Violence

The Violence in the Community Campaign group are Tom, Awo, Kebiana and Neelam.

Our vision is to raise awareness of the different types of violence and try and interpret young people's views on violence to the important access points such as the Police.  We aim to accomplish some worthwhile tasks by the end of our time in office.

We are working on a number of projects;

Partnership work with West Midlands Police and Safer Birmingham Partnership

We have met with West Midlands Police Authority to discuss attitudes and stereotypes from both the WM Police and young people and the way forward for the future

During the West Midlands Police ‘Behind the Badge’ visit we found out how the Police work and how things fit together. Click here to read our report.

The questions focused on finding out specific initiatives that the West Midlands Police are facilitating with young people city wide. After the visit the young people have agreed to write an evaluation / outcomes based report which they will share with UKYP/VIP and wider partners.

Crime Factor in Partnership with Safer Birmingham Partnership and WM Police

We have helped to plan, facilitate and evaluate this event.  The event will focus on safety and the concerns for children and young people regarding violence in the community.

Safer Birmingham/Birmingham Violence against Women Board / White Ribbon Campaign

We are looking at how young people see relationships and we are looking to hold some events to promote healthy and non-abusive relationships.

Our work will Inform Birmingham Violence against Women Board.
