The International Young Leaders Award (IYLA) has been developed by young people who have already been involved in leadership through activities such as, The Junior Sports Leaders Award, Sporting Ambassador’s, Arts Leaders and the INDIE (Inclusion and Diversity in Education) Programme

• Cultural awareness (awareness of different countries and how people live in those countries).
• Respecting differences and similarities in race, beliefs and values.
• Exploring diversity.
• Local or international experiences and exchanges (mixing with different people).
• Sharing and developing skills internationally.
• Communication through different languages, verbal and non verbal.
• Understanding common problems e.g. bullying and racism

The International Young Leaders Award is for Secondary aged young people, developing a project which meets the following criteria:-

• It must demonstrate Leadership.
• It must have an International theme.
• It must have a recognised impact within the community at either an International, National or Local level and be sustainable.
• You must be able to share the impact of your Project within your own school.

The International Young Leaders Award (IYLA) will require a minimum of 20 hours work.   To complete the International Young Leaders Award you will have to design and implement a project.

• Helping people in your community who have different cultures.
• Charity activities to support work in different countries or  organising charity events.
• Challenge others to get involved.
• Putting others before yourself.
• Going abroad or go to different parts of Birmingham to learn about different cultures.
• Learning different languages to communicate with others.
• Translation and non verbal communication.
• Helping people in your community who have different cultures.
• Skill building exercises to promote inter cultural understanding.
• Speaking to other people from other countries about problems in their home country.
