digitalk provides a focus on the use of video communications and video conferencing technology to extend the arena for learning both in and out of schools. With the spread of broadband Internet connections in schools and the ready availability of webcams this exciting technology is coming into its own and the challenge for schools is how to harness and master the enormous potential this medium has to offer.

There are several elements to the digitalk programme for 2005. You are invited to register for any that take your fancy by clicking in the box linked to each event. Registering does not mean that you have to participate. It does however mean that we will be able to offer you help.

Master Classes

The University of Birmingham will be offering various master classes throughout the year where you will be able to interactive with or just receive. If you register we will keep you informed and help you make the link. The first one is on stars on the 16th March.

Moorhouse Black

Moorhouse Black supports the delivery of a variety of subject areas at A and AS level via video conferencing. If you are interested in investigating this area then register and we will support you in making the relevant contact so that your pupils will be richly supported in their studies.

The Red Sea Experience

Join a group of divers linked to the Coral Cay conservation group in investigating the animal and vegetable life in the Red Sea. You will get lectures on :

  • Coral reef ecology
  • Marine plants and algae
  • Crinidaria
  • Hard corals
  • Conservation of coastal and marine habitats
  • Soft corals
  • Threats to reefs
  • Fish biology and ecology
  • Understanding invertebrates
  • Conservation and ecology of the Red Sea
  • Global and regional coral reef initiatives

Plus the opportunity to question the marine biologist and to get immediate photographs of the coral reefs that the divers will visit.
