Overview

What is Action Research?
Action research is about introducing new ways of working, setting aside time to reflect on what is happening and ask:

What do we want to find out?
How could we do things differently to change things for the better?
How do all the people involved in this change feel?
It involves a desire to try new things, to learn new ways of thinking and it involves risk-taking in order to make a difference to learners.

What is the Birmingham Action Research Network?
Teachers across the city are working in small action research teams, learning together about how best to support some of their underachieving pupils and working through a range of information and options.
Rather than being given one answer, they are taking ideas and findings from educational research, ‘giving it a go’ in their own classrooms and closely monitoring the impact on particular groups of learners.
The Birmingham Action Research Network is a hub of different teacher action groups. These groups are all organised in slightly different ways but are all committed to:

Investigating key issues in learning and teaching
Collecting evidence of impact on learning and teaching
Identifying and tackling issues of relevance in specific contexts
Turning data into knowledge about learning and teaching
Disseminating findings within and beyond individual schools.
