PGCE survival guide #pgcetips
Having just completed his PGCE, Tim Handley (@tomhenzley) decided he wanted to give something back and encourage others about to start their PGCE studies. Using Twitter, he encouraged educators to offer #pgcetips. Having collected hundreds of tweets or 140 character nuggets of wisdom, he collated them into an e-book which he published on Lulu.com in two formats - a free PDF download, or a printer version for £6.91. Within hours, hundreds of copies had been downloaded and interest sparked from teacher training institutions, practising teachers and others involved in education. Crowd sourcing and then sharing tips via an e-book. Is that the way forward for educational texts?

Storytruck
Storytruck
This site was started by a father frustrated by the lack of stories and books available in Indian languages. It offers books online that you can record and store on your virtual bookshelf on the site for future use, share on Twitter or Facebook or email to others, as well as allowing you to access those recorded by others. The site currently offers books in Kannada, Hindi and Tamil as well as English, and has proved to be a good way of involving different generations as grandparents and parents record for their children's enjoyment. A great example of someone taking a problem and seeing an opportunity.
