| Can you explain what "pi" is? my dad couldn't! |
Hannah
Not quite in my field of study. Its more of a mathematical question. But here goes.......... I think I would describe 'pi' as a tool. Four thousand years ago people discovered that the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter was about 3. For any circle when you divide the circumference by the radius you get the answer 3.142.... and this figure is called pi. It then becomes a very valuable tool because you cn use it in calculations....try measuring the circumference of a circle...its not very easy. But you can measure the radius and then multiply it by 3.142... and there you have a fairly accurate value for the circumference. |
