What is an Arabesque?
An arabesque is a position a dancer makes when he or she stands on one leg, with the other leg stretched into the air behind them. The arms of the dancer are also stretched into different shapes.

Arabesque is a French word meaning ornament. Many of the steps in ballet are in French, as this was the first country to have a ballet technique. Can you find the meaning of these ballet terms: pirouette, pas de chat, plié and grand jeté?
