Educational Scrutiny
We will be delivering a presentation to the members of the committee, showcasing the impact Voice is Power & UKYP and the Campaign we have all been working on since been elected.
 
We have been look at the implications of the Schools White Paper
EPG identified a number of key areas on how this bill will impact on education for all children and young people

Curriculum Development
Curriculum Development includes teaching & leading, curriculum assessment & qualification and funding
·    Introduction of an English Baccalaureate this will include English, Maths, Modern Foreign Language and Humanities.
·    The end to Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) and replaced with an allowance targeting the most disadvantage young people.

The New Schools System
The New School System, including the role of the LA and Scrutiny Committee, accountability of school improvements.

·    Will New Schools and Academy’s focus on workforce and market skills over core education; e.g. if a retail business is involved in an academy will retail be the focus of the curriculum; what about students who have no interest in retail.

Improving Behaviour & Discipline
Teachers will have increased power to discipline pupils, powers to search pupils, issue detentions and reasonable force where necessary.  

·    ‘What is reasonable force’ How does this effect children and young peoples rights.   
·    What implications does this have on safeguarding?  
·    How do we ensure Staff, Children and Young People are all kept safe.  
·    Will staff have training on conflict resolution and restraining techniques.

Head Teacher Forums
